Looking forward to my race taper this next week. I feel like I could have a great 50K race. The weather forecast looks good. Excited. I enjoy training but I need to break it up from time to time. A taper and race is a good way to do just that.

    Hello George,
I am excited for you. The Centurion race is a race like no other. You have logged some great mileage already. Train well. I look forward to watching you make Centurion in Redcar. Thanks for the kind words.

    Hi Rob
Congratulations on becoming a U.S. centurion!! What a great achievement.
Just come across your training diary as I was looking for a training schedule / further inspiration for the Redcar 100 miler which I notice you’re also doing in August.
I walk for Leicester Walking club at all distances from 10km upto 50km (although I’ve not done one of those since 2002!) and, if my 63 year old body can hold together, hope to become a Centurion with 1 or 2 of my team-mates.
Although my mileage since I decided to target this race hasn’t been too bad (Nov 15 – 152.4 miles, Dec 15 – 188.8, Jan 16 – 197.8, Feb 16 – 163 and counting!) quite a lot are in the 7-9 mile range and I need to ramp up my longer walks (14-15 miles) which are only 3 – 3 1/4 hours long.
Once I get next week’s busy week visiting my students in their schools (since I’ve been allegedly retired I work as an associate tutor for University of Leicester’s teacher training course) I’m looking to “step” up my long walks so that by the end of March my long walks will be in the 20 – 22 mile region.
    Hope your 50km. goes well.
    George
